Gradall Forklift Parts - During the time when World War II created a shortage of laborers, the well-known Gradall excavator was born in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction business called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available laborers in order to do the delicate work of grading and finishing on their interstate projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to build an equipment which will save their business by making the slope grading work less manual, easier and more efficient.

Their very first design model was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform that was attached over a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth which allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to push or pull dirt. Soon enhancing the very first design, the brothers made a triangular boom to be able to add more strength. What's more, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom turn 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was placed at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be outfitted with either a blade or a bucket attachment.

Gradall launched in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their equipment since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to deliver high productivity and comparable power to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the original Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These traditional systems effectively handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity jobs.

The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their lifting and digging ability. These models were made along with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed huge improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed along with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators utilize an operator so as to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power meant for the task at hand. This makes the operator's whole task easier and even saves fuel simultaneously.

When their XL Series hydraulics came onto the market, Gradall was essentially thrust into the highly competitive market of machines meant to tackle excavation, demolition, pavement removal as well as various industrial jobs. Marketability was further enhanced with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
